Update from the Team #15: EULA update and next big release
" with CRYENGINE 3.7 out and in user's hands since last week, we wanted to give you a heads-up on a change to our EULA (End-User License Agreement) and give you a small glimpse at our next big update.
First however, we want to thank all of you for your feedback to 3.7- both the many kinds words, as well as the reports of issues that you have encountered. Rest assured that we are reading through all of it on our forums!
Additions to the CRYENGINE Engine-as-a-Service EULA
First up is a small, but important update to our EULA. Under section 1 "Definitions", we will change 1.1 to read as follows in the future:
1.1. "CryEngine": the CryEngine for PC/Windows or Linux (as applicable) in object code form, including the CryEngine Tools, the CryEngine Assets and any updates thereto as made available by Crytek at its sole discretion under the "CryEngine as a Service" program.Let's talk about the pengui... elephant in the room If you read the above paragraph, it might not come as a major surprise to you, but we are proud to announce that we will add an Open GL implementation and support for running your EaaS games on Linux with one of our next updates. For now, Linux support will be limited to the game launcher, and the Sandbox editor will still require Microsoft Windows. And of course, Linux support will be subject to the same developer-friendly terms as on Windows: Your monthly subscription fee will allow you to sell your games for Linux in addition to Windows, with no additional fees or royalties required.
While we can't pin an exact date on this update, we wanted to give you an early heads-up so you can start planning your Linux ports today!
Until next time "
The CRYENGINE Team
